Friday Fragments

Mommy's IdeaGood morning!  Wow, what a long break from blogging, but our insane month of June is now over.  Bwahahahaha, let the blogging of it begin...  also, feel free to jump over to our darling hostesses blog spot, Half Past Kissin' Time.  She is really a pretty neat lady!!

It is my 1st Blog birthday today!!  Yay for a year!!  I am still planning the 'celebration' for next week since I was unable to get my act together this week.  Any suggestions?

My dear friend Rachel is in Africa this week meeting her children.  This woman is inspiring, motivating, and my friend.  We entered seminary together, each with only 1 child.  We graduated seminary and I had birthed 2 more with the 4th on the way.... she still had one after suffering through several miscarriages.  My heart broke with her.  She is nearing the completion of another adoption process, this time to Ethiopia.  She is getting to meet her sibling set and words can describe the excitement I feel for her!!!  You can read more about her adventures here.

I plan to get my blogging in order soon to share with everyone our crazy June travels and visitors.  I love being busy and June shows it!!  My hubby even teased me about it, the weekend we came home I wanted to hit Lowe's and get the stuff going for our flower beds and work on the yard... he asked I was going to be able to enter back into our 'normal life' again.   Ain't nuthin normal bout our life ;-)  (mom, did you cringe reading that?? just curious ;-)  My mother was an English major in college, have you ever had your personal letters returned to you with red correction marks... hmmmm...

We do have a bit of a downer about our summer.  The kids didn't do well enough on their English exams and are having to re-do the year's work.    I can't let the kids move ahead in school if they didn't grasp the concepts they need.  If they just didn't care enough to be careful with their exams, then this will be a good lesson in taking more care because tests are important.  That may be a challenging this to teach kids, that self motivation is just as important as figuring the school work out, that caring about education is just as much their responsibility as my caring.

I think I really do speak another language than my children understand.... some days, I must.  We have a  rule in our house that we don't "play doors" at all.  That involves anything with a door.  No playing behind them, slamming them, hiding behind them, hitting another person with them... we just don't play around doors.

Wednesday our 4yr old was hiding inside a closet and the 6yr old slammed the door.  The younger boy had his finger on the inside of the door for leverage.... yep, you guessed it.  It got slammed!!!  We put the good ol' frozen peas on it and I was quite proud of the way the other boys began telling silly stories to get JJ to 'feel better' when it had just happened.  He sat to still for his x-rays also.  The finger just looked so gross, but I ended up taking him to the ER only when the finger bruised and wouldn't bend.  It ended up not being broken, thank goodness.  The kids did find out the hard way that playing doors is really not a good idea, there IS a good reason why it's a rule!!!

I hope you all are having a great summer!!  We actually will despite our summer school schedule.

  4. Happy Blog Birthday!
Just the thought of playing around doors makes me cringe, my youngest girl badly injured her finger in a door when she was two.
I'm glad he wasn't hurt too badly!
