History of Israel Weeks

The Homeschool Mother's Journal In my life this week…

I have a non-sleeping, very attention needy toddler.  He has never quite been 'easy' as a child, but this last week he is back to getting up at night so that means I am surviving my days.  I have been waiting to get back up early to work out and make my knees feel better again, but there are days I just am dragging out of bed.

In our homeschool this week…

Or should I say month???  It has been a long time since I have had my act together to join the HMJ.  We have studied Israel's  history as they left Egypt and entered the Promised Land.  I love the way Tapestry of Grace integrates Biblical history into the time line of the world.  I see my kids catching on to this and putting it into a mental time-line for themselves... awesome!

We are focusing our history this week on the first kings of Israel, Saul and David. So many great life lessons here.  It's always easier to point out the foolishness and sin in other people's lives... not always easy to see in our own.  These 2 kings have helped my kids see much in themselves.  It has also taught them to look beyond the pretty package to what lies beneath.  Saul was a great choice for a king in the people's eyes, but David's heart belonged to God.  Yet even he messed up.  Great lessons!!

I signed up for a free Typing Club school account.  You can sign your homeschool up and then set up an account for each of your students.  Once you register as a teacher, you then choose which course you want your students to work on, give each student their own name and password (it can be common or the same for each student) and then you get an email with your own specialized URL for the typing courses.  Your students log in and you get to view the progress on your account.  You can even adjust the settings that allow a student to continue or repeat a lesson till done to your satisfaction.  It's awesome!!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
This coming Saturday is our Scouts Blue and Gold Banquet.  I am so proud of my oldest, he is crossing over into Boys Scouts.  He has been diligent about his tasks and attentive.  He is thriving on the outdoor fun.  He has already begun to attend the Boy Scout troop and is settling in well.  I have a strong suspicion that I will be crying by the time he walks across his bridge.  Ah, who-da-thunk-it...I never expected to be that mom ;-)

My favorite thing this week was…
We had a very stressful Scouting meeting this week and I ended up with boys from another den, last moment.  When I got home, my darling children (of their own accord) had me sit down in a chair.  My oldest got our massager out and did my feet.  After he did that, he worked them like playdoh :-)  My daughter brushed my hair and played with it the whole time I was getting my feet 'done'.  My middle son brought me ice water.  It was refreshing and delightful!!!!

What’s working/not working for us…
I am not being proactive about getting the school assignments charts done before Monday  morning.  It causes the morning to go a bit more slowly than I would

Questions/thoughts I have…
What sort of things do you guys do for Jr. High Science?  My oldest is going to be in 6th grade next year and he loves science.  Can I just get him something to compliment our Apologia Zoology book or would he need something more like BJU Science 6?

Things I’m working on…
Not getting wrapped around the axle about the projects that I just can't seem to get finished right now :-(

I’m cooking…
Twice baked potatoes.  They were amazing, why on earth did it take me so long to do and figure out??!!!

I’m praying for…
Our future.  The Army overstepped this week when they told the Catholic Chaplains to not read the church's official stand on the President's insurance regulation.  My husband cannot serve against his conscience and will remain true to his calling as a pastor.  That may mean we must leave the chaplaincy if those rights are not protected.

My sister is having her first baby today via C-section.  She is only 5' tall and her ultrasound yesterday estimated my nephew at over 9lbs already.  By lunchtime I should have a nephew!!!
