But who do you say that I am?

Yesterday was Palm Sunday, the day Christians worldwide celebrate Christ's entering Jerusalem riding on a donkey as the children of Israel waved palm branches at him. This was a combination of the national symbol of their nation was waved at who they hoped would be their political salvation from Rome at the same time Jesus was making a statement concerning humility riding a young donkey.

Palm Sunday signifies the beginning of what has become known as Passion Week. The week of Jesus final earthly ministering that would end in his death and resurrection. Here we are 2,000 years (or so) later and we still hear Jesus referred to as several different things. Some in our current age know nothing of him at all beyond a swear word or oath, something that slips out when a person is very angry.

Jesus asked his disciples this exact question in Matthew 16 after entering Caesarea Philippi. He wanted to know what people were calling Jesus. Just as in our age, there were various names that Jesus was being called. But Peter makes an inspired answer: You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. (Mat 16:16)

As we are entering the passion week, please head over to Ben's website for a week long study of "Who is Jesus?"

  1. Thanks for the tip and link. I'll try to head over there this evening. I have a friend who just returned from the Holy Land and I was touched just looking at them! Hope you have a blessed week!
