Welcome to another round of Memory Lane!! I am feeling a bit nostalgic, so I will be pulling this out of the archives, dusting if off, and sharing a blog post from way back :-)

Do you have some favorite St. Patty's Day memories? Feel free to share them, or simply enjoy mine! I hope you all had a great weekend and some amazing corned beef and cabbage :-)

Mommy's Idea
Good Evening, and welcome to another episode of Master....

No wait, wrong intro ;-)

Welcome to another weekly wrap-up and Friday Fragments session.  I am your host here at Kay's Korner, and we warmly invite you to pull up a chair or chunk of floor, grab that coffee mug, and relax for some chit-chat and brain unloading.  Also feel free to click on the buttons below for more unloading... it can be quite fun!!

Well, this week I made the ghastly mistake of not writing anything down, so we must do this all quickly, before the kids all wake up, from memory.  Tis a scary thing!!!  We did get our Corned Beef and Cabbage meal last night.  I am not a huge fan of cabbage, but I make this dish for tradition and for my hubby.  He loves it.  I prefer my Cabbage and Kielbasa Dish, hands down.  Check it out, it is super yummy!!

Heard this week at home:

"You datta be tiddin' me!"

"JJ, stop throwing things inside the house."
"But Mom, I payin' wisbee dolf!"
"Well, keep it away from the school tables please."

"Mom!!!  Des wat?  Noah dus wakt!!"

"Mom, ten I dus do a lil bit of stool, den I wach a show?
(holding his fingers about an inch apart)

We had our first full week of Gym class here with our homeschool.  With new baby summer into fall, I was not prepared to get out regularly.  Then my daughter had her arm surgery, she is still in a cast, but I just had to dive in.  The kids need their social time, I need my social time.  So we went.  The kids had a great time, they made friends instantly and they are loving it!!  Of course this means I need to remember to bring water bottles with us on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and I now need to buy more body wash.  Got some lovely sweaty kiddos coming home 2 days a week.  A sports facility nearby hosts this lovely delight for FREE!!  If i could come up with the cash for my own membership and pay for the 2 kids that aren't old enough for class, I could workout too... but that cash is a problem ;-)

The reason the cash is a problem is simply that we are saving for a new family vehicle.  I married a frugal and responsible man, so we live in the black, pay for stuff in cash, and keep savings padded when possible.  Now if you happen to be a saver, this is good and easy.  If you happen to be like me and want to help your family with it, buy your kids things with it, be semi-addicted to Chic-fil-a milks shakes, then it can be a bit stressful.  But I am so very thankful that i have him!!  He is necessary to balance out the me ;-)

You might be asking yourself "Kay, what are you thinking of getting for your new family vehicle?"
I shall tell you!  I am trading all my 'cool points' in and getting a 12 or 15 passenger van.

"Why on earth would you do that?"
Easy enough to answer: 5 children, and a huge dog that love to travel.  We also have friends that we would love to haul around, family that love to visit, so we just need the extra space.  It will actually be so very hard for me to stomach, you see, I had that 5yr plan in college that involved owning my own business, having a sports car that went fast, a truck for mudding, and a motorcycle for those beautiful days of spring..... so the 'bus' idea is a tough one for me.  I believe it will be very useful for us, just not quite what a Mustang is you know??

See, I am going to blame my father here.  My dad was able to secure from his Great Aunt a '69 Impala for me as my first car.  She was big and beautiful, 2 door hard top, 350 engine, floated down the highway like a dream, even at 100 mph.  So accepting the minivan was torture for me, and thus the issue with our future bus.  Oh well.  Here is what my darling baby looks like, mine is gold.  She needs some restoration, and I can't wait for the boys to be older so we can start on that together!!  Woohoo, shop class for homeschool!!!!

Yesterday I had hoped to get out with Gran a bit and play.  We were just hitting the Dutch Market and some other errands, but time with a gal pal without children is a bit of heaven, you know?  That didn't work out but I still was able to take hubby's car for its oil change all by myself.  Of course I had over an hour to waste at a dealership.... so I did a test drive of a fun Honda Pilot and sat in the seats of the new elite Hyundai Equus.  Oh my goodness, folks, what a car!!!  The back seats recline completely, they are heated leather throughout with back massage included, and all the vehicle controls are managed from the back seat.  The upgraded version I sat in is much more of a personal luxury car if you have a driver.  I sat in the only one along the east coast with black on black paint.  It was super nice!!  With touching a sensor pad the truck raised and lowered by itself.  It had sun visors build in, touch button activated.  There was even a little fridge unit in the back seat.  It was a sweet little ride.

Lastly, a tune from the oldies!  I can't see all the clover for St. Patty's Day and NOT sing it to myself!
May it get stuck in your minds as well ;-)

That will have to do for now.  I need to get us all down for school.  I hope you all had a great week and have a great weekend planned!  We have Pinewood Derby for our Scouting boys.

  1. I'm thankful for the corned beef and cabbage. It was super good! And now I'm looking forward to the ruben sandwiches... :)

Someday we'll get a fun car... just you wait and see!

About the Hyundai Equus... I'm surprised they would give such an elegant and classy car a name like that. After all, "equus" is simply the Latin word for "horse."
Maybe they had in mind one of those Kentucky Thoroughbreds or a Tennessee Walker.

  3. I am stuffing 3 little kids {3 carseats!} into a Ford Freestyle. Don't get me wrong! I love the car, and it would be great if I didn't have 3 car seats that barely fit in the middle row. But, Hubby will not even let me get a mini van...

  6. You talk "little kid" very well! I had to read it out loud to figure out what you were saying. Oh, I MISS my Honda Pilot. Three thumbs up for the Pilot.

  7. Sounds like a fun week! We are doing Dave Ramsey right now so I know exactly what you mean about the saving cash for a new vehicle but not the bus part. After all, I only have 2 kids!

  8. I never did get my corned beef and cabbage this week. Pretty shameful for a McGettigan but oh well I was just too busy.
I finally got my kids all growed up and hubby bought me the most beautiful convertible mustang then some crazy woman driving 80 miles an hour (in my neighborhood) crashed into my car and I.
Now I have 11 grand kids and like you we are getting something huge. Oh well:)
Hope your week gets off to a good start:)

  9. You crack me up.
We did not do corned beef and cabbage for St Pat's. I think we grilled steaks that night.

    1. That reminds me of an old joke from the family, remind me to tell you sometime. What did you guys have for St. Patty's Day this year? I brought an old post back out, the original didn't have the threaded comments. Sorry for the late 'reply' ;-)

  10. Kay, you're a hoot! I resisted the minivan until Rachel was about to be born and it just made so much sense to have a van. I succumbed and am glad.
My grandparents had a 12 seater van they traveled in for 25 years. I have wonderful memories of road trips in it. I'm sure your kids will have great memories, too. =)
