American Ideas: Looking to Yorktown

June 27, 2013 - 3:45pm to 4:45pm
The Revolutionary War was not perceived as a successful campaign by most Williamsburg residents in 1781. As the confidence of the revolution was waning, Patriots were questioning the abilities of Washington to provide a great victory in the midst of an economy in shambles, slaves running away and a smallpox epidemic that now stretched across North America. Fear was a present danger. It was also a future danger. With the townspeople of Williamsburg wary about their future, Looking to Yorktown, a Connect webcast hosted by WHRV’s Cathy Lewis, discusses the preparations, possible outcomes and implications of the upcoming battle at Yorktown with General Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, General Cornwallis and Colonial Williamsburg historian Taylor Stoermer.
