at the well

i have posted a 'button' on the left of my blog for 'at the well'. this is an excellent resource for Christian women. today the post was about a God centered marriage. it may seem like a 'no brainer' for some people, but actually living that out is harder than a person may admit. we are all sinful human beings and in marriage this plays out in a whole host of ways. i like to be in control and make decisions, but so does my husband. so there is conflict. if i was faithful to pray for patience, understanding, being slow to speak and slow to get angry, i would conflict properly with the man that God has given me as my husband. but i don't conflict nor do i 'wife' according to the bible on a daily basis. i don't adhere to God's word which tells me to pray even for my enemies and treat them with love. my husband is NOT my enemy, but how often do we as wives lay our stress and bad attitudes on our husbands head. often we do this without actually verbalizing what we are doing. he just meets a bear when he comes through the door.

Ephesians 6:7-8 says "rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free."

and of course we struggle with this, why, because we are sinful creatures. remember Paul lamented this "why do i do what i don't want to do? but what i don't WANT to do, this i do" yet God also tells us in Matthew 11:29-30 "take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for i I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." God promises to teach us, and give us rest for our souls by his easy yoke and light burden. when we lay our burdens and our struggles at His feet, we find rest. it is there for us, we just have to seek God for this.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him"

we are not alone in our sinful struggles as wives, God has given us a means for escape by casting our burdens before Him, and He promises to crown us with life is we are steadfast under these trials and love Him. let us seek God as we strive to be the wives that He has called us to be.
